ASMK 2025/26 Championship Season opens with thrilling trials at Tas-Sagħjtar Quarry

The 2025/26 ASMK Championship season officially roared into action on Sunday, 19 October, with the opening round of the National Trials Championship at Tas-Sagħjtar Quarry. The event not only marked the start of the Trials calendar but also served as the first competitive outing of the new ASMK season.
Despite heavy rainfall the night before — which left the quarry’s rocky terrain slick and treacherous — 16 riders rose to the challenge, navigating six technical sections each ridden three times. Precision, balance, and control were tested to the limit in the demanding conditions.
Top Class
Julian Scicluna delivered a commanding performance to claim the first win of the season, finishing on 18 penalty points. He was followed by Carl Sammut on 47 points, with James Zahra completing the podium on 82 points.
Class B
In the B Class, Emma Said (Beta) impressed with a composed and clean display, taking victory with just 6 penalty points. Matteo Scicluna (Beta) secured second place on 18 points, while Ben Zahra (TRRS) finished third with 39 points.
Newcomer Nathan Abela (TRRS) made a promising debut, placing fourth on 56 points.
Open Class
Among the Open class riders, Krista Scicluna (Oset) dominated the field with only 4 penalty points, securing a comfortable win. She was followed by Kenzy Bonello (TRRS) on 14 points and Leia Pearl Butler (Oset) on 27 points. Nathan Camilleri (Beta) finished fourth with 45 points.
This event was particularly significant for Butler and Camilleri, who were both making their first appearances since being promoted from the Junior class last season.
Junior Class
The next generation of talent was on full display in the Junior category. Luca Dimech (TRRS) clinched top spot with 15 penalty points, edging out Leah Zahra (Oset), who also finished on 15 points — with clean sections deciding the winner. Tommy Bonnici (TRRS) followed closely in third with 19 points.
Just behind were Zven Borg (Oset) with 22 points and Harry Micallef with 45 points, rounding out a highly competitive junior field.
ASMK extended its thanks to Blokrete Limited for providing the venue, and expressed special appreciation to Robert Caruana and Brandon Cassar for their invaluable assistance in marshalling and ensuring the smooth running of the event.
The National Trials Championship will continue with Round 2 on 9 November 2025, with the venue to be announced in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the next event on the ASMK calendar is set for Sunday, 2 November, at the ASMK Complex in Ta’ Qali, where the National Motocross Championship will kick off at 10:00 a.m.
