The Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) hosted the annual Enemed Malta Motorsport Awards at a prestigious hotel in St Julian’s on Friday evening, an event dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements and significant contributions of the local motorsport community throughout 2025.

The evening was a showcase of talent, volunteerism, and the promising future of Maltese motorsport, culminating in the induction of a lifelong servant of the sport into the Hall of Fame.

Honouring Dedication and Club Excellence

The ceremony opened by recognizing key officials whose dedication makes local events possible. Mr. Josef Abela was named Official of the Year, and Mr. Arthur Naudi Manche was honoured as Marshal of the Year.

Following these accolades, awards were distributed to outstanding nominees representing each of the MMF’s affiliated clubs:

  • Old Motors Club Malta: Rita Suban
  • Karting Club Malta: Jacob Micallef
  • Malta Drag Racing Association: Luke Farrugia
  • Island Karting Club: Kimi Bugeja
  • Land Rovers Owners Club Malta: Mario Gauci
  • Malta Drifting Association: Laurence Orsini
  • All Wheel Drive Club: Alan Zahra
  • Ford Owners Group: Clayton Farrugia
  • Island Car Club: Charlie Dingli
  • Malta Classic: Gerald Portanier

National Champions and International Recognition

The Federation introduced new awards to recognize the champions of local national championships and Maltese competitors who have excelled in international disciplines not widely practiced locally.

Nicky Gauci was awarded for Circuit Racing, and Daniel Montebello was recognized for Time Attack.

The 2025 National Champions honoured were:

  • Aaron Debattista – Malta National E-Sport F4 Champion
  • Brandon Bonello – Malta National E-Sport GT3 Champion
  • Christian Azzopardi – Malta National Hillclimb Champion
  • Alfred Camilleri – Malta National Drifting Champion

Enemed Partnership and Future Vision

Mr. Karl Loftus, representing main sponsor Enemed, addressed the audience, expressing the company’s satisfaction with the ongoing development of motorsport facilities and the strong performance of Maltese drivers. He drew parallels between Enemed’s successful restructuring and the future flourishing of Maltese motorsport as current projects are completed.

The MMF provided an update on its work, highlighting the organization of the National Karting Championship under revised FIA standards and plans for a new local academy to nurture young talent. President Micallef reiterated the federation’s long-term goal of seeing a Maltese driver competing internationally in every motorsport discipline.

Hall of Fame Induction: Anthony Vassallo

The evening concluded with the most prestigious awards. The President’s Award was presented to Oliver Attard, the Federation’s Vice Secretary.

Finally, the administration announced the 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee: Anthony Vassallo.

Mr. Vassallo was recognized for five decades of exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to Maltese motorsport. His multifaceted career as an organiser, competitor, timekeeper, and committee member has left a profound and lasting impact on the community. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Colin Fitz.
