The Malta Football Association (MFA) confirmed that its independent judicial body, the Protests Board, convened yesterday to hear submissions from both Floriana FC and Marsaxlokk FC regarding the formal protest filed by Marsaxlokk following the decisive YoHealth Malta Premier League Final played on May 16, 2026.

The protest centred around Floriana’s controversial winning goal in stoppage time, which secured a 2-1 victory and handed the Greens their 27th Maltese league title. Marsaxlokk had argued that the decisive goal should not have been allowed to stand, claiming that the ball entered the net directly from a throw-in without making contact with any player inside the area.

Club representatives and legal counsel from both sides appeared before the Protests Board and presented their respective arguments and evidence during the hearing.

Following its deliberations, the Protests Board ruled that the protest lodged by Marsaxlokk FC is rejected, meaning the original result of the match remains unchanged and Floriana FC are officially confirmed as YoHealth Malta Premier League champions.

In a brief statement issued afterwards, the Malta FA said the Board’s decision takes immediate effect and has already been communicated to all parties concerned.

The MFA added that no further comments will be made at this stage.
