Borussia Dortmund ease past Augsburg to gain ground in Bundesliga title race

Borussia Dortmund secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park, with teenage defender Luca Reggiani making history as the youngest Italian to score in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund, fresh from ending a three-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over , started brightly and quickly put the visitors under pressure. Their early intent paid off inside the opening 15 minutes when an incisive attacking move opened up the Augsburg defence.
Daniel Svensson slipped a precise pass through to Maximilian Beier, whose deflected cross across the box fell perfectly for Karim Adeyemi to tap home his second league goal of 2026.
Augsburg briefly threatened a response when Waldemar Anton struggled to deal with a long ball forward, gifting Rodrigo Ribeiro a chance. However, the forward fired harmlessly over the crossbar.
That moment proved to be Dortmund’s only real scare in a dominant first half. The hosts pushed hard for a second goal, with Beier and Adeyemi both striking the crossbar with powerful efforts. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen also produced a smart save to deny Jobe Bellingham from long range, ensuring Augsburg remained within reach at half-time.
Niko Kovac’s side continued to control the game after the break, and their persistence eventually paid off. In just his fourth Bundesliga appearance, 18-year-old Reggiani lost his marker to meet Julian Ryerson’s corner and guide a composed header past Dahmen to double Dortmund’s advantage.
Augsburg interim coach Manuel Baum introduced several substitutes in an attempt to shift the momentum, but the visitors struggled to create meaningful chances in a largely one-sided contest.
Dahmen was again called into action late on, producing a strong save to deny Adeyemi and prevent the scoreline from becoming more emphatic.
The victory keeps Dortmund firmly in second place and narrows the gap to league leaders Bayern Munich to nine points. Augsburg, meanwhile, slip to ninth place after suffering back-to-back defeats.
