Bayern Munich close in on Bundesliga scoring record ahead of St Pauli clash

Bayern Munich need just two more goals against FC St. Pauli on Saturday to surpass a 54-year-old Bundesliga scoring record.
Vincent Kompany’s dominant league leaders have already reached 100 Bundesliga goals this season—leaving them just one short of the all-time top-flight record—with six matches still remaining in the 34-game campaign.
The existing benchmark was set in the 1971–72 season by a legendary Bayern side featuring icons such as Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, and Uli Hoeneß.
Reaching the 100-goal mark already underlines Bayern’s attacking dominance throughout the current season.
At their current scoring rate, Bayern Munich are projected to finish the season with around 121 goals—an output that would surpass the record totals in both the Premier League and La Liga, despite those competitions featuring 38-game seasons.
Even the all-time benchmark across Europe’s top five leagues—125 goals, set by Torino in the 1947–48 Serie A campaign—appears within reach.
However, Bayern may need to pursue the milestone without Harry Kane, who is also chasing a record of his own.
The England striker has scored 31 goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, leaving him 10 short of the all-time single-season record of 41 goals, set by Robert Lewandowski in 2020–21.
Harry Kane missed England national football team’s March internationals due to an ankle injury, but returned in style by scoring the decisive goal in Bayern Munich’s 2–1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday.
However, the England captain did not appear fully fit and could be rested against FC St. Pauli, with Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg in mind.
One player almost certain to start is Michael Olise, who is enjoying a record-chasing season of his own.
Olise, who provided the assist for Kane’s goal against Real Madrid, has already scored 18 Bundesliga goals this campaign—just three shy of the all-time single-season record set by Thomas Müller in 2019–20.
One to watch: Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart)
Angelo Stiller, the midfield anchor for VfB Stuttgart, has impressed so strongly this season that he earned a recall to the Germany national football team last month, attracting attention beyond football as well.
Teenage darts sensation and Manchester United supporter Luke Littler named Stiller his favourite German player during the Premier League Darts event in Berlin, even jokingly urging him to “come to United”.
Stiller’s resurgence has mirrored Stuttgart’s strong form, with the club losing just two of their last 15 matches as they push for Champions League qualification.
Responding to Littler’s comments, Stiller said: “That’s great, he’s also my favourite darts player.”
He also acknowledged the speculation with a relaxed view: “It’s part of the business that rumours arise. You shouldn’t focus on it too much and just do your own thing.”
