Heidenheim earned their first-ever point at the Allianz Arena, but were left heartbroken after a stoppage-time own goal forced them to settle for a dramatic 3-3 draw with Bayern Munich.

Vincent Kompany made seven changes from the side that faced Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, with the return leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final in mind. Even so, the Bundesliga champions dominated possession against a Heidenheim side fighting for survival.

Despite their control, Bayern struggled to create clear chances and were largely restricted to efforts from distance, with Leon Goretzka seeing a routine attempt saved by Diant Ramaj before Hiroki Ito fired wide.

Heidenheim, however, remained dangerous from set pieces and stunned the hosts in the 22nd minute. After a corner was only partially cleared, Marnon Busch delivered a looping ball into the area, which Budu Zivzivadze instinctively guided past Jonas Urbig.

The visitors showed no signs of slowing down, with Eren Dinkçi narrowly missing the target before later racing onto a perfectly weighted pass from Busch. He broke in behind Jonathan Tah and poked the ball beyond Urbig to double Heidenheim’s lead.

Bayern responded before the break, though, as Goretzka produced a moment of quality, curling a free-kick into the top corner to reduce the deficit.

A clear show of intent followed after the restart, with Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich all introduced from the bench.

Kane immediately made an impact, threading a superb pass through to Nicolas Jackson, whose effort was met by an excellent save. Moments later, Marnon Busch produced a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Kim Min-jae.

Bayern eventually found a way back into the contest in the 58th minute, when Goretzka converted from close range after meeting Olise’s dangerous corner delivery.

Olise then went close himself, curling a shot narrowly wide, while Kimmich came even closer as his powerful strike crashed against the post. Urbig also had to be alert to deny Eren Dinkçi from point-blank range as Heidenheim threatened on the counter.

Despite Bayern’s pressure, Luis Díaz fired just wide, and with 15 minutes remaining Heidenheim stunned the home crowd once again. Budu Zivzivadze drove into the box, cut inside Olise and finished superbly into the top corner.

However, there was late drama deep into stoppage time as Olise’s strike struck the post and ricocheted in off Diant Ramaj, sparing Bayern defeat in extraordinary fashion.

Heidenheim at least extended their run to just one defeat in their last six matches, but the point leaves them three points adrift of St. Pauli, who occupy the relegation play-off spot and play on Sunday.

Bayern, meanwhile, continued their impressive form, with their record now standing at just one defeat in their last 21 matches across all competitions.
