Bayern Munich moved a step closer to securing a 34th Bundesliga title after extending their unbeaten streak to 12 matches with an emphatic 4-0 win over Union Berlin.

Dominant at the Allianz Arena and riding a run of five straight home victories, Bayern controlled the opening half but had to wait until the 43rd minute to break the deadlock.

The visitors worked tirelessly to contain the league leaders early on, though they offered little threat going forward.

Bayern’s first real opportunity arrived just before the half-hour mark when Josip Stanišić delivered a precise cross to Lennart Karl, but he missed a simple finish as his effort struck the post and bounced away.

Harry Kane came close to opening the scoring soon after, rounding the goalkeeper but failing to finish from a tight angle.

Just as it seemed Union Berlin — known as Die Eisernen — would reach half-time on level terms, they were undone by a late double blow before the break.

Michael Olise, who had been a constant threat down the right, finally made his impact by cutting inside onto his left foot and curling a precise effort into the far corner.

The visitors desperately needed the half-time whistle to regroup, but they were punished in stoppage time when Frederik Rønnow misjudged a cross, allowing Serge Gnabry to fire a powerful volley in at the near post.

Any hopes of a comeback after the interval were quickly dashed, as the visitors struggled to recover from the late first-half setback.

Under pressure from three defenders, Harry Kane brilliantly controlled a pass from Konrad Laimer before turning and clinically slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Arriving with 93 Bundesliga goals already this season, Bayern Munich maintained their relentless attacking display, with Serge Gnabry adding his second by powering an effort past Frederik Rønnow at the near post.

The result leaves Union Berlin without a win in all 14 of their Bundesliga meetings with Bayern, and they now appear destined for a mid-table finish, sitting evenly between the top seven and bottom three, with a seven-point gap on either side.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich extend their lead to 12 points over Borussia Dortmund and remain strong favourites to retain the league title.
