ASA denies receiving any official report on alleged Match-Fixing claims

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) has responded to a report published by Times of Malta concerning alleged match-fixing involving the national waterpolo team during the European Championship.
In a statement issued on the matter, ASA President Karl Izzo stressed that the association has not received any official report, complaint or formal notification in relation to the alleged incidents.
Izzo reaffirmed the ASA’s firm commitment to the principles of integrity, transparency and fair play, describing them as fundamental pillars of sport at all levels. While acknowledging that any allegation of this nature is taken seriously, he underlined that claims remain unproven unless established through due process by the competent authorities.
The ASA expressed hope that the allegations are unfounded, noting that any confirmation of wrongdoing would be deeply disappointing and would unfairly undermine the significant efforts, progress and investment made in recent years by the association, its officials, athletes, coaches and volunteers to develop aquatic sports both locally and internationally.
The association also reiterated its readiness to cooperate fully with all relevant national and international bodies should a formal investigation be launched or should assistance be requested. Izzo added that the ASA would take all necessary measures within its remit to protect the integrity of the sport and ensure accountability if required.
In the meantime, the ASA called for restraint, responsibility and respect for due process in both public discussion and media reporting until the matter is clarified through the appropriate channels.
