Alan Grima Named EHF Delegate for Men’s EHF EURO 2026

Alan Grima’s appointment as an EHF Delegate for the Men’s EHF EURO 2026 marks another important milestone for Maltese handball, underlining Malta’s growing recognition at the highest levels of European sport.
The prestigious tournament, Europe’s flagship national team championship, is being jointly hosted by Denmark, Sweden and Norway and features 24 of the continent’s top national sides. Matches are being staged across several venues, with the Preliminary Round played in Herning (Groups A and B), Oslo/Bærum (Groups C and D), Malmö (Group E) and Kristianstad (Group F). The competition then moves into the Main Round in Herning (Group I) and Malmö (Group II), while Herning also hosts the Final Weekend, including the 5th–6th place play-off, the semi-finals, the bronze medal match and the final.
Grima made his EURO debut as supervisor for the opening match of the tournament between co-hosts Norway and Ukraine. At the official table, he was joined by EHF Observer Urmo Sitsi of Estonia, with Hungarian referees Ádám Bíró and Olivér Kiss entrusted with officiating duties.
His appointment reflects the increasing trust placed in Maltese officials on Europe’s biggest stages and highlights the progress made by the local handball community. It is also the outcome of a long-term strategy by the Malta Handball Association focused on education, accreditation and continuous professional development for coaches and officials, helping to strengthen Malta’s standing within the European Handball Federation structure.
Further reinforcing this commitment to development, Malta Handball will also be represented at the second EHF Grassroots Convention, titled “Grow the game: building athletes, leaders and ambassadors”, which will take place between 22 and 23 January 2026. Malta’s participation follows the signing of the EHF Grassroots Charter and underlines its ongoing focus on sustainable growth, participation and leadership within the sport.
