The Malta Handball Association (MHA) has announced that the closing weekend of the 2025/2026 season will take place between 25 and 26 April 2026, with activities kicking off a day earlier through EHF Level 2 coaching sessions led by an expert from the European Handball Federation.

Season Finals

The weekend will feature the season’s most anticipated fixtures, as league champions and Knock-Out Cup winners from each category face off in championship finals — the final and most prestigious trophies of the campaign.

A total of six finals will be played at the University Sports Hall, with four matches scheduled for Saturday 25 April and two on Sunday 26 April. Competitions will span from Under-15 level up to senior categories, giving players across all age groups the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage of the season.

Schedule:

  • Saturday 25 April
    • 12:30 – U15 Boys
    • 14:00 – U15 Girls
    • 15:30 – Senior Women
    • 17:30 – Senior Men
  • Sunday 26 April
    • 09:00 – U17 Girls
    • 11:00 – U19 Men

Final fixtures will be confirmed closer to the date.

International Referees

The MHA will also welcome French international referees David Christmann and Thomas Iltis, who will officiate on the final day. With 15 years of experience at elite level, the duo are classified in Elite Group 1 by France’s National Refereeing Commission and regularly oversee matches in top competitions, including the LNH, Proligue, and the Women’s Butagaz Énergie League.

They have handled high-profile fixtures involving clubs such as Montpellier, PSG, Nîmes, Nantes, and Limoges, and are widely recognised for their consistency in high-pressure encounters.

EHF Level 2 Coaching Course

EHF expert Luís Santos will be in Malta from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 April to deliver sessions as part of the MHA’s Level 2 Coaching Course. Santos brings over 20 years of experience in high-performance training and athlete development and holds both academic qualifications in Sports Science and the prestigious EHF Master Coach Pro Licence.

The course, delivered under the EHF Master Plan, will also involve the Association’s Technical Director and experienced local coaches, focusing on enhancing technical, tactical, and managerial coaching skills.

Open CPD Sessions

Coaches not enrolled in the Level 2 course are encouraged to attend selected sessions as part of their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements for the 2026/2027 coaching licence. These sessions build on the work of the Technical Director and coaches Allan Heine and Carlos Prieto and will be open throughout the weekend.

Closing Remarks

MHA President Daniel Tabone said the association is looking forward to concluding the season with an event that reflects its core values: competitive handball, high officiating standards, and a strong commitment to coach development.

The Malta Handball Association also expressed its gratitude to the European Handball Federation, the French Handball Federation, the Maltese Olympic Committee, and Sport Malta for their continued support.
