VisitMalta Women Club Trophy kicks off with impressive wins for German Sides

The VisitMalta Women Club Trophy got underway on Sunday with two opening fixtures at the National Football Centre, the Malta FA’s newly inaugurated state-of-the-art technical complex in Ta’ Qali.
The inaugural edition of the tournament brings together four leading women’s clubs from Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, all currently holding training camps in Malta.
Two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winners VfL Wolfsburg made a winning start by defeating Dutch side PSV Vrouwen 2-0 in the opening match. Fellow German outfit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim also impressed, cruising to a convincing 4-0 victory over Switzerland’s FC Basel in the second encounter of the day.
The German teams, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim, were the first to arrive in Malta on Thursday, with PSV Vrouwen and FC Basel joining them a day later on Friday.
Matches in the competition are being staged across two venues, with three fixtures scheduled at the National Football Centre and the Malta FA Training Grounds. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday afternoon with the final match between VfL Wolfsburg and FC Basel, set to be played at the Tony Bezzina Stadium with kick-off at 15:00. Earlier that day, PSV Vrouwen will take on TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the National Football Centre at 11:00.
The team accumulating the highest number of points across the tournament will be crowned winners of the first edition of the VisitMalta Women Club Trophy, which is being held with the support of the Malta Football Association.
