Stuttgart edge Frankfurt in thriller, climb to third after Nartey’s late winner

Stuttgart came from behind to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, extending their impressive run to seven consecutive competitive wins on a Tuesday and climbing temporarily to third in the table.
The match burst into life almost immediately, with Frankfurt striking first in the fifth minute. Rasmus Kristensen rose highest from a corner, his looping header sailing over Alexander Nübel to give Die Adler an early advantage.
Stuttgart responded with intent. Arthur Theate was forced to deal with a dangerous Angelo Stiller set piece, while Jeff Chabot intercepted a loose pass from Younes Ebnoutalib to prevent further trouble. Ebnoutalib’s difficult evening soon came to an end, as he was forced off injured just 20 minutes into only his second appearance for the club.
The visitors’ problems deepened seven minutes later when goalkeeper Kauã Santos spilled Maximilian Mittelstädt’s cross, allowing Ermedin Demirović to pounce and tap into an empty net for the equaliser.
With momentum firmly swinging Stuttgart’s way, Jamie Leweling was denied by Santos, while Chris Führich saw a shot blocked as the hosts pushed for more. Their pressure paid off in the 35th minute when Deniz Undav turned sharply away from Oscar Højlund and fired a shot that deflected into the far corner, completing the turnaround before half-time.
The second half mirrored the intensity of the first. Undav had an early effort blocked, while Ritsu Doan tested Nübel at the other end. Both sides came agonisingly close around the hour mark, with Führich and Undav sending efforts narrowly wide, moments after Ansgar Knauff’s fierce strike rattled the crossbar for Frankfurt.
Führich later slipped Undav through with a delightful pass, but Santos rushed out to deny him, before Chabot headed wide from the resulting corner. Stuttgart were left to rue those missed chances when Frankfurt substitute Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyabe, making his Bundesliga debut, calmly picked out the bottom corner to level the score at 2-2.
However, the final say belonged to Stuttgart. In the 88th minute, Nikolas Nartey found space inside the area and converted confidently to score his first Bundesliga goal and seal a thrilling win.
Nübel preserved the victory in stoppage time with a crucial save from Arnaud Kalimuendo, ensuring Stuttgart claimed their fourth win in five competitive matches. The result lifts them temporarily into third place, hands Frankfurt their first defeat in four games, and denies Dino Toppmöller’s side a spot in the top six.
