Top NBA draft pick leads list of 28 selected for rising Stars Tournament

Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg has been named among the 28 players selected for the NBA Rising Stars tournament player pool, it was confirmed on Monday.
The 19-year-old, who was taken with the top pick in last year’s NBA Draft, has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the league. Flagg is currently averaging 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game for the Mavericks, who sit 12th in the Western Conference with a 19-27 record.
The Rising Stars event will take place on February 13 in Los Angeles as part of All-Star Weekend. The format will feature three teams made up of rookies and second-year players, alongside a fourth team drawn from the NBA’s developmental G-League.
Each team will compete in games played to 40 points, with the winners advancing to a final played to 25 points.
A total of 21 NBA players — 11 sophomores and 10 rookies — were selected by assistant coaches and will be drafted onto three teams on Tuesday. The G-League squad will be chosen separately by the league office.
Former NBA greats Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady will each serve as team coaches, while ex-player and current analyst Austin Rivers will lead the G-League team.
Among the other rookies selected are Philadelphia guard V.J. Edgecombe, Brooklyn’s Russian guard Egor Demin, San Antonio’s Dylan Harper, Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel, Memphis forward Cedric Coward, New Orleans duo Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, Washington’s Tre Johnson, and Toronto’s Collin Murray-Boles.
The Rising Stars tournament provides a showcase for the league’s brightest young talent and offers fans a glimpse into the NBA’s future during All-Star Weekend.
