Getafe’s winless run in LaLiga stretched to seven matches (D2, L5) after they were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Girona, who struck a last-gasp equaliser in the 95th minute. The late goal lifted the Catalan side up to 10th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone.

With several relegation rivals picking up valuable points over the weekend, Getafe arrived in Catalonia knowing the importance of starting strongly. They almost made the perfect opening when Mario Martin saw his close-range effort blocked in the early stages.

Despite that early warning, Girona soon took control of proceedings. Vitor Reis forced a sharp save from David Soria with a powerful header, while Thomas Lemar came agonisingly close from distance, rattling the crossbar.

Enjoying just one defeat in their previous seven home matches (W3, D3), the Blanquivermells dominated possession as the first half wore on. However, clear chances were limited, with Getafe staying compact and disciplined at the back. Bordalás’ side nearly stole the lead before the break when Zaid Romero narrowly missed the target from inside the area.

Girona began the second half with renewed purpose, and Alex Moreno went close early on, sending a header wide from 12 yards. That miss proved costly, as Getafe struck first soon after.

In the 59th minute, Luis Vázquez broke the deadlock, sweeping a precise finish into the roof of the net after meeting Juan Iglesias’ perfectly weighted cross.

The goal sparked urgency from the hosts, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Iván Martín and Alejandro Francés both passed up promising chances as Girona increased the pressure in the final stages.

Getafe were forced deeper and deeper as the match entered stoppage time, and their resistance finally crumbled in the dying moments. In the 95th minute, Vitor Reis rose highest to guide a downward header into the net, rescuing a point for Girona and extending their unbeaten run.

While Girona celebrated a valuable late comeback, Getafe were left frustrated once again, still searching for their first league victory in seven outings.
