This week in the NBA: Doncic dominates, Flagg enters the record books

Team of the Week: New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have battled inconsistency throughout the season, but they now appear to be finding real rhythm and momentum.
A four-game winning streak—featuring victories over the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and Brooklyn Nets—has lifted them into second place in the Eastern Conference. They’ve also turned Madison Square Garden into a nightmare for opponents.
A stunning 10–1 home record has made the Garden a fortress, and if the Knicks plan to make noise in the postseason, this kind of home dominance will be essential.
Underperformers of the Week: Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers entered the season with lofty expectations, but they’ve been one of the league’s most disappointing teams so far.
Three losses last week—to the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors—dropped them to 12–9 and left them clinging to a play-in spot.
Creatively, the offense often stalls, and defensively they’re struggling as well, particularly on the boards. There’s a lot of work ahead if they hope to resemble the contenders they aimed to be.
Player of the Week: Luka Doncic
While Nikola Jokic is commanding plenty of attention this season, Luka Doncic is putting together an equally extraordinary campaign.
The Slovenian star looks completely at home in Los Angeles following his move to the Lakers last February. His backcourt chemistry with Austin Reaves has been electric, playing a major role in the Lakers’ seven-game winning streak, which has lifted them to second in the Western Conference.
Doncic’s week was nothing short of spectacular:
- 34 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists vs. Pelicans
- 35 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists vs. Mavericks
- 43 points, 9 rebounds, 13 assists vs. Clippers
He currently leads the league in scoring at 35.1 points per game and is firmly in the MVP conversation.
Play of the Week: Nikola Jokic
What more can be said about Nikola Jokic? The Serbian superstar remains the best player in the world and continues to deliver jaw-dropping highlights on a routine basis.
His latest masterpiece—a stunning behind-the-back assist to Peyton Watson during the Denver Nuggets’ win over the Minnesota Timberwolves—was an automatic choice for Play of the Week.
Story of the Week: Cooper Flagg
The Mavericks’ season has been turbulent, but rookie Cooper Flagg has been a rare bright spot—and last week, he made history on consecutive nights.
At just 18 years old, the No. 1 pick dished out 11 assists in a loss to the Lakers, making him the youngest player in NBA history to record a 10+ assist game.
A day later, he dropped 35 points in a win over the Clippers, becoming the youngest player ever to score 35+ points in an NBA game.
Flagg looks every bit like a generational talent, and the Mavericks now face a clear priority: build their future around him, even if it requires a complete overhaul of the roster.
