Tottenham manager Thomas Frank addressed the media ahead of his side’s upcoming Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Separated only by goal difference in mid-table, Spurs travel to St James’ Park hoping to halt a worrying run of form. Saturday’s defeat to Fulham marked their 10th Premier League home loss of 2025, equalling the club’s record for the most home league defeats in a single calendar year. With that in mind, Frank may welcome the chance to play away from the pressure of home supporters.

Frank urges fans to stay united

Tottenham have struggled badly against Newcastle in recent years, losing six of the last seven meetings, including each of the last four. Frank will be looking to reverse that trend, but knows the task will be difficult.

Before discussing the match, the Spurs boss responded to the toxic atmosphere following the weekend loss to Fulham, when sections of the home crowd booed the team off the pitch.

“I completely understand the frustration. If we don’t win, there will always be frustration,” Frank said. “We haven’t won much at home this season or last, so the frustration can grow. It’s my job to do what we can to bring calm.

“We are nothing without the fans. Tottenham Hotspur is nothing without the fans. My point was that during matches, we need each other. Afterward, the booing can be fair. But during the game, we need to make it a fortress, and to do that we have to be together.”

Addressing Spurs’ defensive issues

Tottenham have conceded 13 goals in their last four matches, with Frank acknowledging that some of those goals were avoidable.

“You can say the four goals we conceded against United and Fulham are some of the goals I’d like to avoid more,” he noted. “I think they had five and seven shots; the xG was very low. In the other two, we conceded too many shots.”

Team news

Despite the gloom around the club, Frank stressed that the squad is fully focused on correcting their form and climbing from 12th place in the table.

“Everyone who was ready for the Fulham match is ready for Newcastle tomorrow,” he confirmed.

Tottenham will also welcome back Cristian Romero from yellow-card suspension. The defender is expected to replace Kevin Danso in the back line—an important boost for a Spurs side desperately seeking stability at the back.
