Steph Curry scores 49 as Warriors narrowly beat Spurs in NBA thriller

Stephen Curry delivered a masterclass performance, scoring 49 points—including the game-winning free throws in the final seconds—to lift the Golden State Warriors over the San Antonio Spurs 109-108 in NBA Cup action on Friday.
For the second time in three days, Curry propelled the Warriors past Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs, following up a 46-point effort on Wednesday with another dominant display. He shot 16 of 26 from the field, drained nine three-pointers, and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line in a contest featuring 13 lead changes.
French star Wembanyama recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox added 24 points and 10 assists for the Spurs. San Antonio led 79-77 heading into the fourth quarter, but Curry scored 14 points in the final frame to turn the tide.
With 1:05 remaining, Wembanyama’s tip-in put the Spurs up 108-105, but Jimmy Butler’s layup cut the deficit to one. After Wembanyama blocked another Butler attempt, Fox fouled Curry, who calmly sank the deciding free throws.
“That was fun,” Curry said. “They’ve got a great team. To come in here and win back-to-back games is huge. We all did it together. That’s what we’re trying to build on.”
Friday marked the third night of group play in the NBA Cup, now in its third edition. Teams are divided into six groups for round-robin matches, which also count toward regular-season standings. Eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, with semi-finals and finals set for Las Vegas in December.
