Semenyo may play against Spurs before Manchester City switch, says Iraola

Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo could be set to play his final match for the club amid growing transfer speculation, manager Andoni Iraola said on Tuesday, while also confirming that forward Justin Kluivert will undergo knee surgery.
Semenyo has a £65 million ($87.7 million) release clause in his contract that can be activated during the opening two weeks of the January transfer window, according to British media reports.
The 25-year-old Ghana international has been strongly linked with a move to second-placed Manchester City, who are looking to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Semenyo has been one of the league’s standout performers this season, scoring nine goals — a tally surpassed only by City’s Erling Haaland (19) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (14).
“I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow or in the next two or three days,” Iraola told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s home match against 13th-placed Tottenham Hotspur. “I asked before coming here to be informed, because otherwise I’d look foolish talking about Antoine and then he leaves.
“That’s the situation right now. I think it could be his last game — that’s my personal opinion. But nothing is agreed and nothing is signed. It’s simply my understanding of the market and the noise around it.”
Meanwhile, Iraola confirmed a further blow for Bournemouth with news that Dutch forward Justin Kluivert will be sidelined after sustaining a knee injury during Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Arsenal. The 26-year-old was substituted in the 74th minute and is set to undergo surgery, though the injury does not involve the ligaments.
“It’s the knee capsule, the patella,” Iraola explained. “I’m not a doctor, so I’m not the best person to explain it, but what I’ve been told is they’ll open it up, assess the damage and decide whether to repair it — which takes longer — or just clean it, which would mean a shorter recovery.
“But it’s definitely a significant injury.”
Bournemouth currently sit 15th in the Premier League table with 23 points from 20 matches.
