Osasuna stunned Real Madrid with a dramatic 2-1 victory at El Sadar, stretching their unbeaten LaLiga run to six matches (W4, D2) and bringing Los Blancos’ eight-game winning streak to a crashing halt.

A cagey opening saw Madrid dominate possession — at one stage holding 72% of the ball — but without carving out clear chances. The contest burst into life around the quarter-hour mark, as a series of feisty exchanges involving Vinícius Júnior ignited the home crowd and lifted Osasuna’s intensity.

Ante Budimir registered the hosts’ first meaningful attempt soon after, curling narrowly wide with Thibaut Courtois beaten. The Belgian goalkeeper was then forced into a spectacular one-handed save when a teasing delivery into the box caused chaos, moments before Budimir powered a header against the post.

Madrid threatened sporadically in response. Vinícius dazzled in flashes, Kylian Mbappé skimmed a low drive inches wide, and David Alaba unleashed a fierce effort from distance. Yet it was Osasuna who struck first. When Courtois was judged to have brought down Budimir inside the area, the Croatian calmly dispatched the resulting penalty with a composed left-footed finish to hand the hosts a deserved lead.

The opening stages of the second half saw both sides trade half-chances without truly testing the goalkeepers. Arda Güler came closest for Madrid, flashing a venomous right-footed strike just over the crossbar with Sergio Herrera scrambling.

Osasuna’s relentless energy and slick ball movement began to pin Madrid back, prompting changes from Carlo Ancelotti. One of the substitutes, Trent Alexander-Arnold, quickly added thrust and urgency to the visitors’ attacks. Mbappé thought he had equalised with a sublime finish into the top corner, only for the offside flag to cut celebrations short — a warning of Madrid’s growing momentum.

The leveller arrived soon after. A dazzling surge down the right from Federico Valverde ended with a pinpoint cross that Vinícius converted from close range. Madrid nearly turned the game on its head moments later, but Javi Galán produced a crucial last-ditch block to deny Mbappé.

Just as it seemed the spoils might be shared, Osasuna delivered a decisive blow. In the final minute, Raúl García produced a moment of individual brilliance, fashioning space before firing beyond Courtois to send El Sadar into raptures.

The result not only ends Madrid’s 24-game unbeaten head-to-head run against Los Rojillos — stretching back to January 2011 — but also opens the door for Barcelona to leapfrog their rivals when they face Levante on Sunday.
