Borussia Dortmund extended their unbeaten Bundesliga run to 16 matches as Fabio Silva struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a dramatic 2-2 draw against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.

Dortmund arrived in Leipzig aiming to trim the gap to leaders Bayern Munich ahead of next weekend’s Der Klassiker. But despite winning only one of their previous five home games, Leipzig produced a clinical first-half display to seize control with two well-worked goals before the interval.

Both sides threatened inside the opening 10 minutes. Romulo flicked David Raum’s low delivery straight at Gregor Kobel, while at the other end Maarten Vandevoordt — making his first Bundesliga start of the campaign — reacted sharply to deny Maximilian Beier.

Dortmund’s right flank has been a key attacking outlet in recent weeks, with Julian Ryerson laying on four assists in the Matchday 22 win over Mainz. However, Leipzig identified space behind him and exploited it ruthlessly.

Yan Diomande was central to their approach, repeatedly driving at Ryerson and delivering dangerous low crosses. One such burst of creativity led to the opener, as Diomande skipped past his marker and squared for Christoph Baumgartner to steer home from close range.

Alarmingly for the visitors, the pattern continued. Leipzig consistently targeted the front post with deliveries from the left, and Baumgartner found himself presented with near-identical chances on multiple occasions. After spurning earlier opportunities, he made no mistake with his final attempt of the half, doubling both his tally and Leipzig’s advantage.

Dortmund emerged after the break with renewed urgency. The visitors looked more composed down the right and increased the tempo in the final third. Their response arrived five minutes into the second half when Ryerson’s corner caused chaos and Romulo inadvertently headed into his own net.

With momentum shifting, Niko Kovac’s side pressed higher in search of an equaliser. Though they fashioned several promising situations, the final pass often lacked the precision required to unlock Leipzig’s defence.

Just as it appeared Leipzig would hold on, Dortmund struck in the fourth minute of added time. Two substitutes combined decisively — Karim Adeyemi bursting down the flank before drilling a low cross into the area, where Silva arrived to convert and claim his first Bundesliga goal.

The late leveller trims the gap at the top to eight points and preserves Dortmund’s impressive unbeaten streak, providing a timely boost ahead of their showdown with Bayern.

For Leipzig, however, the frustration deepens. With only one win in their last six matches in all competitions, this result represents another setback in their pursuit of a return to UEFA Champions League football.
