Napoli’s Scott McTominay crowned Serie A Player of the Year

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been named Serie A Player of the Year after a standout campaign with the Italian champions.
The Scotland international delivered 13 goals and six assists in all competitions under Antonio Conte, playing a key role as Napoli marched to the league title.
McTominay becomes the first Scottish player ever to claim the award, joining an illustrious list of previous winners, including Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Kaká, Francesco Totti and Zinedine Zidane.
He also made history earlier in the season by surpassing Denis Law’s 63-year record for the most goals scored by a Scotsman in a single Serie A campaign, netting 12 times in the league—his best return to date.
Reflecting on the honour, the former Manchester United midfielder spoke warmly about his connection with the club.
“Coming to Napoli was an easy choice. I came to the right place,” he said. “It’s sensational, it’s incredible to be here and win this award. Thank you to everyone—the team, the staff, my teammates. My bond with Napoli is special; there are so many special places here.”
McTominay is expected to feature again on Wednesday in Napoli’s Coppa Italia tie against Cagliari. His £25 million transfer is increasingly looking like exceptional value for a side once again challenging for the title.
