Former England star reportedly detained on suspicion of attempted rape

A former England and Premier League footballer who played during the 2010s has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after being detained at Stansted Airport.
According to The Sun, the player — who cannot be named for legal reasons — was stopped by Border Force officers at passport control on Sunday before he was able to board a flight.
Essex Police confirmed the arrest, saying: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and has been bailed to a date in late February 2026 while we continue our enquiries.”
The newspaper reported that police records indicated the individual was sought in connection with a non-recent allegation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
