Mbappé sidelined for France’s final qualifier against Azerbaijan with ankle injury

France captain Kylian Mbappé will be sidelined for Sunday’s final World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan due to an ankle injury, the French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed on Friday, a day after the team secured qualification for next year’s tournament.
“Mbappé is still experiencing inflammation in his right ankle, which requires further assessment. He will undergo tests today in Madrid,” the FFF said in a statement.
The 26-year-old forward starred in Thursday’s 4–0 victory over Ukraine, scoring twice and providing an assist as France booked their place at the 2026 World Cup.
In addition to Mbappé, Manu Kone and Eduardo Camavinga will also miss the match. Kone is suspended following a booking against Ukraine, while Camavinga, who did not play on Thursday, is sidelined with a left hamstring muscle strain.
