Benn Predicts Eubank Jr Will Retire After Highly Anticipated Rematch

Conor Benn has expressed his belief that Chris Eubank Jr will retire following their eagerly awaited rematch on Saturday.
The two fighters have dominated boxing headlines throughout 2025, ever since their first encounter in April. That bout was notable not just for the action in the ring, but for the drama outside it: Eubank Jr famously threw an egg at Benn during the pre-fight build-up, and his father, Chris Eubank Sr, surprised fans by joining him in the corner despite prior public disapproval.
The rivalry echoes the tension between their fathers in the 1990s, adding another layer of intrigue to both bouts this year.
Benn, traditionally a welterweight, moved up two divisions to face Eubank Jr and believes the rematch could mark the end of his opponent’s career, given the limited opportunities remaining in the middleweight division.
“I think Chris will retire after this fight,” Benn told Sky Sports.
“He’s fighting a welterweight. Just look at the landscape—he isn’t going to stay at 160lbs and fight a Janibek (Alimkhanuly) or a (Hamzah) Sheeraz for half the money. It doesn’t make sense.”
Both fighters weighed in at 72 kilograms ahead of the rematch, with Eubank Jr making weight this time after being fined £375,000 in April for exceeding the middleweight limit.
For Benn, the focus is now on closing this chapter and pursuing his larger ambitions in the welterweight division.
“It’s been the bane of my life for the past three years. I just can’t wait for this to be done and over with, so I can move on with my life,” he said.
“My goal is to win a world title at welterweight. Right now, my goal is to get back down to welterweight. There are plenty of world title opportunities, whether it’s (Mario) Barrios, (Ryan) Garcia, or Rolly Romero. Brian Norman, any of these guys—I’ll fight any of them.”
Benn came close to an upset victory over Eubank Jr in April, ultimately losing by unanimous decision. On Saturday, he will look to exact revenge with his father, Nigel, back in his corner.
