Los Angeles Lakers unveil statue honoring legendary coach Pat Riley

The Los Angeles Lakers recently unveiled a statue honoring legendary coach Pat Riley outside Crypto.com Arena. The bronze statue depicts Riley in one of his signature Armani suits with a raised fist, commemorating his pivotal role in the team’s 1980s “Showtime” era.
Riley coached the Lakers from 1981 to 1990, winning four NBA titles (1982, 1985, 1987, 1988) and guiding the team to seven Finals appearances. The statue now stands among those of other Lakers legends, including Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, and broadcaster Chick Hearn.
Riley, 80, expressed his gratitude at the ceremony: “I’m so grateful to be honored and to be with those who are the giants that I jumped up on their shoulders and they carried me.” This tribute cements his legacy as the architect of the high-octane Lakers teams that became a cultural phenomenon in Hollywood and transformed the NBA.
