Lookman Earns Atalanta a Draw as AC Milan Miss Chance to Go Second in Serie A

Atalanta extended their unbeaten start to the Serie A season (W2, D7) but were forced to settle for a fifth consecutive draw after a 1–1 stalemate with AC Milan in Bergamo.
Milan arrived looking to bounce back after losing top spot in Serie A at the weekend and made the perfect start, taking the lead inside four minutes through Samuele Ricci. The midfielder’s effort took a heavy deflection off Ederson after Honest Ahanor’s attempted clearance from a corner fell kindly into his path, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and finding the net.
Atalanta responded brightly, with Isak Hien and Davide Zappacosta both threatening before Ahanor fired over from close range following smart work from Mario Pašalić. The hosts’ persistence was rewarded shortly after when Ademola Lookman netted his first goal of the season, bringing the sides level and setting up a tense second half.
The Rossoneri sought to regain control after the break, boosted by the introductions of Christopher Nkunku and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who replaced the injured Santiago Giménez. Nkunku nearly made an instant impact, delivering a teasing cross that Davide Bartesaghi headed down for Youssouf Fofana, only for the midfielder to drag his shot wide.
Both teams pushed for a winner as the match wore on, though clear chances remained limited. Hien headed wide from a Marco Brescianini corner, while Zappacosta forced Mike Maignan into a superb save with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
In the end, neither side could find the decisive breakthrough. The draw will likely please Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri more, as his team remain unbeaten in nine matches across all competitions (W6, D3). For Atalanta boss Ivan Jurić, however, frustration continues — he remains winless in ten meetings with Allegri (D4, L6) and has now seen his side claim just three wins from their last 16 home league outings in an inconsistent start to the campaign.
