Fourteen-year-old Maltese karate athlete Jenna Awad Attia has secured a historic bronze medal at the WKF K1 Youth League held in Jesolo, Italy over the weekend — becoming the first-ever Maltese athlete to reach the podium in the kata category at a Youth League event.

Competing in an exceptionally strong field of 96 athletes from 33 countries, Awad Attia overcame opponents from global karate powerhouses including Spain, Germany, the United States, Mexico, France, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Sweden, and India. Her remarkable consistency and technical precision earned her a well-deserved place among the world’s best in her age group.

A Rising Star in Maltese Karate

This bronze marks the biggest achievement to date for Awad Attia, who has already delivered outstanding performances in previous international events. Earlier this year, she won two gold medals at the European Small States Karate Championships in Cyprus, and she claimed silver at the Budapest Open.

Her latest success is expected to boost her standing even further in the international karate rankings. Currently ranked 15th in the world, she is anticipated to climb even higher following this result.

Awad Attia will now turn her attention to preparing for the upcoming European Karate Championships, set to take place in Limassol, Cyprus. With momentum on her side and her confidence soaring, she heads into the competition as one of Malta’s brightest hopes for further international success.
