Injury blow for Real Madrid as Bellingham misses Benfica play-off
Real Madrid have confirmed the extent of Jude Bellingham’s injury just hours after the English midfielder was forced off during their match against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Bellingham picked up the injury in the ninth minute after feeling a sharp pain in his left thigh while sprinting. He immediately signalled to the bench and was replaced by Brahim Díaz.
Medical tests have revealed damage to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg, ruling the Stourbridge-born star out for approximately a month.
As a result, Bellingham is set to miss several key La Liga fixtures and Real Madrid’s crucial Champions League play-off against Benfica. He will definitely be unavailable for the first leg, while his involvement in the second leg is considered highly unlikely.
The injury comes as a major blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with Bellingham playing a central role in their midfield this season.
