France will step up their preparations for next year’s World Cup with a pair of high-profile friendlies against Brazil and Colombia in the United States next March, French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo announced on Friday.

Les Bleus are scheduled to take on Colombia in Florida and Brazil in Boston during the international window from March 23 to 31. The matches come roughly three months before the World Cup kicks off across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, running from June 11 to July 19.

“Nothing has been signed yet, but everything is progressing well for us to get a taste of American air in March with two prestigious opponents. I believe it’s the right opportunity, given that the World Cup will be held there,” Diallo told a small group of reporters.

“Brazil are seeded, so we know we won’t meet them in the group stage. Colombia, however, could be a potential opponent, so we’ll see what Didier Deschamps thinks. While we await the draw, we’re moving forward positively.”

France will be among the seeded teams for the World Cup draw, which takes place in Washington, D.C., on December 5, while Colombia will feature in Pot 2.

Diallo also confirmed that the two-time world champions plan to play two additional friendlies in June. He hopes those matches will be held on home soil, giving Deschamps — France’s longest-serving national team coach — the chance to bid farewell to supporters before stepping down after the World Cup.
