Como extend fine form with hard-fought win over Verona

Como climbed into Serie A’s top four with a confident 3–1 victory over struggling Hellas Verona at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, stretching their unbeaten streak to eight matches in all competitions (W4, D4).
Cesc Fàbregas’ side have not tasted defeat since August, and they wasted little time asserting their dominance. In-form midfielder Nico Paz, who has now contributed eight goal involvements in as many matches this season (4 goals, 4 assists), almost made the perfect start with a fourth-minute free-kick that beat Lorenzo Montipò but came back off the post.
The hosts didn’t have to wait long to celebrate, though. Just five minutes later, Anastasios Douvikas was left unmarked in the box to head home Alex Valle’s pinpoint cross and give Como an early advantage.
Verona briefly threatened an equaliser midway through the first half when Suat Serdar was played through on goal, but Jean Butez produced a fine save to deny him. However, the visitors found a way back into the game two minutes later thanks to a defensive mix-up. Miscommunication between Butez and Maxence Caqueret left Serdar with an open path to goal, and the midfielder made no mistake, slotting home his second of the season to level the score.
The game remained finely poised going into the break, with both sides trading half-chances. Como came closest to retaking the lead shortly before the hour mark when Paz forced Montipò into another smart stop from the edge of the area.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 62nd minute. Caqueret made amends for his earlier error by whipping in a superb cross that Stefan Posch met with a powerful header, restoring Como’s lead.
As Verona pushed for a late equaliser, Como remained composed and punished them in stoppage time. Substitute Jesús Rodríguez delivered an inviting ball across goal for Mërgim Vojvoda, who smashed home to seal a well-deserved three points.
The result continues Como’s impressive home form in 2025 (W5, D2) and lifts Fàbregas’ men into fourth place in Serie A. For Verona, the wait for their first league win of the season goes on (D5, L4), with their last top-flight victory over Como dating all the way back to December 1986.
