The top of the BOV Challenge League remains a tight contest after leaders Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s and second-placed Balzan both secured crucial victories on Saturday.

Leaders Edge Saints, Balzan Dominant

Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s held onto their narrow lead at the top of the table by defeating St. Andrews 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Daniel Zerafa scored the decisive goal in the 42nd minute to secure all three points for the leaders.

Balzan kept the pressure on with a dominant 4-1 victory over Vittoriosa Stars. The match was effectively decided within 16 first-half minutes, with goals from James Scicluna (10′), Clive Gauci (20′), Chiemezie Stephen Gabriel (21′), and Luis Santos (26′). Aidan Agius Gilford scored a consolation goal for Vittoriosa seven minutes from time.

Mgarr and Sirens Secure Big Wins

Mġarr United were in excellent form at the Centenary Stadium, dismantling Swieqi United 5-1. Wisdom Osaretin Igiebor and a four-goal haul from Cristhyan led the charge for Mġarr. Zak Barbara scored Swieqi’s lone goal.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sirens defeated Pietà Hotspurs 4-1. Thiago Nonato opened the scoring for Sirens, and despite Arthur Stelmach’s equalizer, goals from Trezeguet Zammit, Hafiz Mohammed Akadom, and an own goal sealed the comfortable victory.

League Standings

Birżebbuġa leads the pack with 27 points, just one point ahead of Balzan. The competition remains fierce in the top half of the table as teams jostle for promotion spots.
