The BOV Amateur League II delivered a series of surprising results this weekend, with league leaders Kalkara United finally tasting defeat while Mdina Knights made a significant move up the table.

Kalkara’s Streak Snapped by Msida

Kalkara United’s flawless start to the season came to an end at the Sirens Stadium. After nine consecutive victories, Kalkara was narrowly defeated 1-0 by Msida St. Joseph. The decisive goal came late in the match, with Thomas Grima finding the net for Msida in the 79th minute, handing Kalkara their first loss of the campaign.

Rabat Ajax Return to Winning Ways

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Rabat Ajax got their season back on track with a 3-1 win over Marsaskala. Aidan Paul Azzopardi opened the scoring for Rabat in the 14th minute. Although Dale Valletta equalized for Marsaskala on 29 minutes, Jamie Camilleri restored Rabat’s lead just before halftime. Deyan Cortis sealed the victory with a third goal in added time during the second half.

Siggiewi Stunned, Gharghur Held

A shock result unfolded at the Charles Abela Stadium where Siġġiewi fell 2-1 to Għaxaq. Juan Artiaga gave Siġġiewi the lead in the 51st minute, but Għaxaq fought back with Gabriel Calleja equalizing on 64 minutes before Rui Zammit secured a dramatic winner in the 90th minute.

In an earlier fixture at the same venue, Għargħur and Dingli Swallows played out a goalless draw.

Galea Hat-Trick Lifts Mdina Knights

On Friday, Giovanni Galea was the star of the show at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, netting a hat-trick as Mdina Knights climbed to second place in the standings with a dominant 4-0 win over Santa Venera Lightnings. Galea scored in the 2nd, 26th, and 51st minutes, with Aaron Sammut Steer adding the fourth goal in the 65th minute.

League Standings Summary

Kalkara remain top despite the loss, leading the pack with 27 points. Msida moves into clear second place, followed closely by Dingli Swallows and Mdina Knights.
