Beerman’s Contract Uncertainty Leaves Sliema Wanderers Facing Key January Decision

Sliema Wanderers find themselves on alert as uncertainty continues to surround the future of left-back Myles Beerman, with several Malta Premier League clubs closely monitoring the situation ahead of the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old Maltese international is approaching the final months of his current contract, which expires in June, and negotiations over an extension have yet to yield an agreement. From next week, Beerman will be free to hold talks with other clubs, opening the door to a potential free transfer at the end of the season.
Unless a new deal is agreed in the coming weeks, Sliema are understood to be open to negotiating Beerman’s departure in January in order to avoid losing him for nothing. A former Manchester City and Rangers player, Beerman remains one of the most versatile and highly regarded defenders on the local scene, capable of operating across multiple positions.
Since joining Sliema Wanderers in the summer of 2021, Beerman has been a consistent presence, making close to 160 appearances for the club and scoring twice. Under coach Paul Zammit, he rediscovered his best form, re-establishing himself as a key figure and reaffirming his reputation as one of Malta’s standout players of recent years.
At international level, Beerman enjoyed a run of regular appearances during Davide Mazzotta’s brief tenure as interim national team coach. Under current head coach Emilio De Leo, he has continued to receive call-ups, though his involvement has been more limited, featuring just three times. His most notable appearance came in Kaunas against Lithuania, where he played an entire half in a strong Maltese performance that was ultimately overshadowed by a controversial late penalty.
Despite his pedigree, Beerman’s club minutes have been restricted in recent weeks. He has not started a Premier League match since the 1 November clash against Floriana, featuring only briefly off the bench in the recent victory over Valletta and remaining an unused substitute in Sliema’s final league fixture of the year, again against Floriana.
With interest growing and time running down on his contract, the coming weeks are set to be decisive. Several Premier League clubs have already made enquiries regarding Beerman’s availability, placing Sliema Wanderers under pressure to resolve the situation swiftly as January approaches.
