Arsenal extended their impressive Premier League record against newly promoted sides to 24 wins from 25 matches with a controlled 2-0 victory over Burnley, temporarily moving seven points clear at the top of the table.

Burnley were aware of Arsenal’s strength from set pieces, yet they conceded from one inside 15 minutes. Gabriel kept a deep corner alive at the far post, allowing former Burnley target Viktor Gyökeres to nod in from close range.

Arsenal dominated the first half and could have doubled their lead when a defensive lapse from Maxime Estève sent Bukayo Saka through on goal, but Martin Dúbravka’s low save kept Burnley in contention. The Slovakian goalkeeper denied Saka again soon after, before Axel Tuanzebe cleared Leandro Trossard’s follow-up off the line.

Trossard later played a key role in Arsenal’s second goal, delivering a precise cross for Declan Rice to head into the corner. Mikel Arteta replaced Gyökeres at halftime, easing some pressure on the Burnley defence, though the hosts still struggled to create chances.

Despite introducing attacking reinforcements, Burnley failed to register a shot until the 73rd minute, when Estève’s header set up Florentino, whose effort went over the bar. Arsenal remained in control and nearly added a third when Ethan Nwaneri’s curling strike went narrowly wide late on.

Burnley’s two-match winning run ended without them seriously threatening Arsenal’s lead. The result could prove significant in the title race, as Arsenal moved seven points clear pending Liverpool’s later fixture.
