Nottingham Forest’s winless run in the Premier League stretched to nine matches after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the City Ground.

United, one of just three sides to win all their Premier League fixtures in October, began brightly. Benjamin Šeško twice found space early on but fired wide from promising positions.

Forest struggled to trouble United keeper Senne Lammens and suffered an early setback when Douglas Luiz limped off with a muscular injury. As the first half wore on, Elliot Anderson began to influence proceedings for the hosts, but it was Šeško again who failed to capitalise, unable to control through balls from Bryan Mbeumo and Luke Shaw.

United eventually made their dominance count. After Matz Sels produced a superb save to deny Amad Diallo, the resulting — and somewhat contentious — corner was met by Casemiro, who powered home a header for his fifth goal involvement in eight appearances against Forest.

Forest offered little in response before the break, with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s speculative effort from distance summing up a frustrating half for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

However, the hosts came alive after the restart, turning the game on its head with two goals in just 92 seconds. Morgan Gibbs-White met Ryan Yates’ cross to loop a header beyond Lammens, before Nicolo Savona pounced on slack defending to fire home a second and send the home crowd into raptures.

United regrouped as Bruno Fernandes struck the post midway through the half, but Forest looked the more likely to add to their lead, Hudson-Odoi flashing a low drive narrowly wide after a surging run.

The hosts’ decision to sit back in the closing stages proved costly. Failing to clear a late corner, they allowed Amad Diallo to rifle in a left-footed volley and salvage a point for United.

Both sides had chances to win it in stoppage time — Amad again came closest, only for Murillo to block his goal-bound effort on the line.

The draw means Forest remain without a league win since the opening weekend, while United’s wait for consecutive away victories continues. The Red Devils have now won just one of their last ten Premier League matches on the road.
