The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) will be hosting an International Women’s Water Polo Friendly Tournament this weekend as part of the participating teams’ preparations for their upcoming competitive commitments later this year.

The tournament will take place at the Cottonera Sports Complex and will feature the Malta women’s national team alongside Italian clubs Firenze and Volturno, as well as the Slovakia national team. All matches are open to the public with free entrance, offering local fans a valuable opportunity to watch high-level international water polo action.

Action gets underway on Saturday 3 January, with Firenze facing Volturno at 09:00, followed by Malta taking on Slovakia at 10:30. The afternoon session will see Slovakia play Volturno at 16:00 before Malta conclude the day against Firenze at 17:30.

The tournament continues on Sunday 4 January, starting with Malta versus Volturno at 09:00, followed by Slovakia against Firenze at 10:30. The competition will then move into the placement matches, with the third-place match scheduled for 16:00 and the final at 17:30.

For Malta, the tournament represents an important test against strong international opposition as the national side continues its development programme. The presence of experienced Italian clubs and a competitive Slovakian selection is expected to provide valuable match exposure and tactical preparation ahead of future international fixtures.

The ASA’s hosting of this event further highlights Malta’s growing role as a hub for international aquatic sport, while also supporting the continued growth and visibility of women’s water polo locally.
