Desmond Bane’s 37-point outburst propels the Magic past the Heat and into the NBA Cup semi-finals.

Desmond Bane poured in 37 points to lift the Orlando Magic into the NBA Cup semi-finals with a 117–108 victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday.
Playing without injured leading scorer Franz Wagner, sidelined by a high ankle sprain, Orlando improved to 11 wins in its last 15 outings and remained perfect in Cup action at 5–0.
Bane knocked down 6 of 9 shots from beyond the arc, while also collecting six rebounds and five assists. Jalen Suggs added 20 points in support.
“We need these reps. We need to play in these meaningful games,” Bane said afterward. “We’re a young team trying to make something happen, so these moments matter.”
The Magic will meet either the Knicks or Raptors in Saturday’s semi-finals in Las Vegas.
Bane took over late, dropping 15 of his points in the fourth quarter to shut the door on Miami’s hopes of a rally.
“It’s winning time,” he said. “All I care about is winning.”
Paolo Banchero contributed 18 points in his third game back after missing 10 contests with a groin injury, helping hand Miami its fourth straight defeat.
Despite Orlando winning the previous two matchups this season, the Heat stormed out to a 15–0 start behind seven quick points from Tyler Herro and carried a 30–17 advantage after one period.
The Magic responded with a 14–4 burst in the second quarter, trimming the margin to 57–56 by halftime. They then grabbed an 89–83 lead after three and opened the final quarter on a 9–2 spurt to push the gap to 98–85, firmly taking control.
Norman Powell paced Miami with 21 points, while Herro added 20. Bam Adebayo and Andrew Wiggins each finished with 19.
In Toronto, Jalen Brunson sparked the Knicks by hitting 7 of 9 shots and 4 of 6 threes in the opening quarter, powering New York to an early advantage. A 19–4 run to start the second pushed the lead to 54–43, and the Knicks carried a 69–52 cushion into halftime.
Brandon Ingram’s 31 points weren’t enough for the Raptors, who have now dropped six of seven and have lost ten straight games against New York.
Wednesday’s remaining quarter-finals feature Phoenix visiting Oklahoma City and the San Antonio Spurs traveling to face the Los Angeles Lakers.
The defending champion Thunder aim to extend their winning streak to a franchise-best 16 games and improve to 24–1 overall — a start that would match the 2015 Warriors for the best 25-game record in league history.
San Antonio will again be without star rookie Victor Wembanyama, who continues to recover from a left calf strain that has kept him out nearly a month.
