NBA Roundup: Siakam Shines as Injury-Hit Pacers Pull Off Stunning Win

Pascal Siakam buried a clutch three-pointer in the final seconds as the injury-ravaged Indiana Pacers claimed their first win of the NBA season, defeating the Golden State Warriors 114–109 on Saturday.
The Cameroonian forward was instrumental in snapping Indiana’s five-game losing streak to open the campaign, finishing with 27 points. Aaron Nesmith led all scorers with a career-high 31 points, while Quenton Jackson added 25 points, also a personal best.
Down 104–93 midway through the fourth quarter after Stephen Curry hit one of his 24 points for Golden State, the Pacers stormed back with a 21–5 run to seal a stunning comeback victory over the Warriors (now 4–3).
“We just played hard-nosed basketball,” Siakam said after the win. “We’ve got to get back to being us — playing tough, making it hard on teams to beat us. For those last few minutes, we made it tough on them.”
The 2019 NBA champion with Toronto came up big when it mattered most, drilling a go-ahead three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to put Indiana ahead 112–109.
“I just tried to play hard and be in position to help my team,” Siakam added. “Everybody fought for the rebound, I got an open shot, and you’ve just got to shoot it.”
Jackson then sealed the win with a layup in the final five seconds.
“He was a big part of why we won,” Siakam said of Jackson. “I just want to instill confidence in those guys — remind them that this is the NBA, and when your number’s called, take advantage. Be aggressive, don’t overthink, and just play hard. That’s what we did tonight.”
The victory comes as a relief for an Indiana squad decimated by injuries. The Pacers, who lost to Oklahoma City in seven games in last season’s NBA Finals, have been without several key players — including Tyrese Haliburton, who suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon during that series and is expected to miss the entire season.
The team is also missing Obi Toppin (broken foot), T.J. McConnell (hamstring), Kam Jones (back), Bennedict Mathurin (toe), and Andrew Nembhard (shoulder).
“It’s been tough,” Siakam admitted. “A couple of months ago we were fighting for a championship, and now we’re 0–5. But I’m trying to keep everyone together, to keep fighting no matter what. It’s a long season — we’ll get better. I just ask the fans to be patient. We’re going to keep fighting.”

Dennis Schröder and Domantas Sabonis each contributed 24 points for the Kings (2–4), with Sabonis also pulling down 13 rebounds.
Giannis Antetokounmpo posted 26 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists for the Bucks (4–2).
