Victor Wembanyama starred as San Antonio Spurs extend streak; Doncic leads Lakers past Nuggets

Victor Wembanyama recorded 32 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday to power the San Antonio Spurs to a 115-102 victory over Charlotte, marking their 17th win in 19 games. The 22-year-old French center also added eight assists, three blocks, and two steals, helping the Spurs avenge a January loss to the Hornets.

“That might have been my worst defensive game all year,” Wembanyama admitted. “So yeah, we had to make a statement today.” The Spurs improved to 49-18, just three games behind Western Conference leaders and reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City, as they gear up for their first playoff appearance since 2019.

Wembanyama’s versatile play, including a key four-point and assist contribution during a 12-0 Spurs run, helped San Antonio seize control late in the game. “I like this ability of mine to be able to do great at lots of things,” he said, reflecting on his evolving offensive style this season.

At the same time, Luka Doncic led the LA Lakers past the Denver Nuggets 123-119 in overtime, delivering a triple-double with 30 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds. Nikola Jokic recorded 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 assists for Denver. The game went to overtime after Lakers’ Austin Reaves scored a tying basket with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation. Doncic’s late heroics secured the win.

“The game was very big,” said Doncic. “We’ve still got a long way to the playoffs. We’ve got to approach every game the same way.” The victory gives the Lakers a 42-25 record, third in the Western Conference, while Denver fell to 41-27.

Elsewhere, the Atlanta Hawks extended their winning streak to nine games with a 122-99 rout of Milwaukee, highlighted by Jalen Johnson’s triple-double (23 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds) and 30 points from C.J. McCollum.

Philadelphia edged Brooklyn 104-97, powered by Quentin Grimes’ season-high 28 points and eight rebounds, while Orlando continued its seven-game streak with a 121-117 victory over Miami, led by Paolo Banchero (27 points) and Desmond Bane (21).

Boston overcame Washington 111-100 behind Jayson Tatum’s 20 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists, with Neemias Queta adding a game-high 24 points as the Wizards’ losing streak reached 11 games.

The weekend’s action highlighted Wembanyama’s dominance, Doncic’s late-game brilliance, and continued momentum for teams like the Hawks and Orlando as the NBA playoff picture begins to take shape.
