Hellas Verona part ways with Zanetti following poor run
Hellas Verona have dismissed head coach Paolo Zanetti following an eight-match winless run that has left the club rooted to the bottom of Serie A, the club confirmed on Monday.
The decision comes after Verona suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Cagliari on Saturday. The club have managed just two league victories this season and currently sit four points adrift of the safety zone.
In a statement, Verona announced: “Hellas Verona FC confirms that Paolo Zanetti has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team.” The club also revealed that Under-19 coach Paolo Sammarco will oversee first-team training on Monday.
Zanetti had been in charge for a year and a half and guided Verona to a 14th-place finish last season, helping the club avoid relegation by six points. However, performances have declined this campaign, with Verona conceding a league-high 41 goals in 23 matches.
Verona now face a crucial relegation battle as they prepare to host 19th-placed Pisa on Friday. Both sides are currently level on 14 points, making the fixture a key test in their fight for survival.
