Naxxar Lions overpower Swieqi United to book FA Trophy quarter-final spot

Premier League side Naxxar Lions demonstrated too much firepower for their Challenge League opponents, securing a convincing 4-2 victory to advance to the quarter-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy. Naxxar dominated the tie from the outset, never allowing Swieqi United to settle into the match.
The Lions took an early lead after just five minutes when Vinicius Ferreira delivered a low cross to Louis Pahama, who fired home from a central position. Despite their dominance and possession, Naxxar struggled to create numerous chances initially. Swieqi almost capitalized on a well-worked corner in the 25th minute, but Ayrton Attard’s rising shot was brilliantly pushed over the crossbar by goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
Naxxar doubled their lead when a poor pass was intercepted by Joao Victor, who found Pahama. The French forward turned provider, squaring the ball to Vinicius Ferreira, who slotted it home. Naxxar almost added a third in the 34th minute, but Joao Victor’s header was superbly saved by Swieqi keeper Keirin Ellul Ruggier.
The match was all but over three minutes into the second half when Joao Victor controlled the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed a thumping drive that left the Swieqi keeper with no chance. Two minutes later, Naxxar added a fourth via a penalty, converted by Joao Victor after Pahama was fouled in the area.
Swieqi managed to pull two late consolation goals back. In the 86th minute, Asenda drilled the ball home, and two minutes later, Kojo Okle made it 4-2. However, Naxxar regained their composure to comfortably see out the win and secure their place in the next round.
