Adli breaks Liverpool hearts in five-goal Bournemouth thriller

A dramatic stoppage-time winner handed AFC Bournemouth a stunning 3-2 victory over Liverpool, securing only their second win in 15 head-to-head meetings and extending Arne Slot’s side’s winless league run to five matches (D4, L1).
Liverpool’s confidence had been boosted by a 3-0 midweek victory over Marseille in Europe, but there were few early signs of momentum carrying over into domestic competition. The opening stages were cagey, with Mohamed Salah’s wayward curling effort the only notable attempt until James Hill hooked a half-chance over Alisson’s crossbar after 18 minutes.
Despite rarely threatening in attack early on, Bournemouth struck first in the 26th minute. A long pass from Marcos Senesi caught Virgil van Dijk out of position, allowing Alex Scott to reach the byline and pull the ball back for Evanilson, who powered his finish past Alisson.
The hosts doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Van Dijk again failed to hold the defensive line, playing Álex Jiménez onside. The forward raced onto Hill’s through ball and calmly slid his shot between the goalkeeper’s legs.
Liverpool responded with increased urgency before the break. Florian Wirtz fired narrowly wide, while Salah saw a tame volley saved by Đorđe Petrović. Van Dijk partially redeemed himself just before half-time, rising at the near post to head in Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner and reduce the deficit.
The visitors dominated possession early in the second half, but Bournemouth’s disciplined defending repeatedly frustrated their attempts to equalise. Efforts from Alexis Mac Allister, Jeremie Frimpong, and Cody Gakpo were consistently blocked, while Ryan Gravenberch’s powerful strike from distance drifted narrowly wide.
Bournemouth had chances to restore their two-goal cushion when chaos followed a long throw into the Liverpool box, but Jiménez’s effort was smothered by Alisson. That miss proved costly.
With 10 minutes remaining, Liverpool drew level through a clever set-piece routine. Salah rolled a free-kick to Szoboszlai, who curled a precise effort around the wall and beyond Petrović.
Both sides had opportunities in the closing moments, with Wirtz and Evanilson failing to convert clear chances. However, deep into stoppage time, Bournemouth snatched victory in dramatic fashion. Another long throw caused panic in the penalty area, and Amine Adli reacted quickest to force the ball over the line.
The late goal sparked wild celebrations at the Vitality Stadium and brought an end to Bournemouth’s six-match losing run against Liverpool in all competitions.
