Revamped Hibernians and Birkirkara eye strong Start to YoHealth Premier League Closing Round

Hibernians and Birkirkara are both eager to rebound from disappointing Opening Phases of the YoHealth Malta Premier League as they face off in their first match of the Closing Round on Sunday evening (kick-off: 5pm). Both clubs have undergone squad revamps in a bid to mount a stronger challenge for the title crown in the second half of the season.
Hibernians Adapt to Key Departure
Hibernians coach Branko Nisevic confirmed his team is actively seeking a replacement for prolific forward Lucas Villela, who recently departed for Kuwait. Despite the blow, the Serbian coach remains confident his team can secure a Top 6 finish. “We always believed we could be at the top of that pile,” Nisevic said regarding the Bottom 6 phase, adding that the team is now “better prepared for the Closing Round” after adapting their playing style and integrating new players.
Captain Bjorn Kristensen emphasized the need for consistency moving forward, stating, “It’s useless looking at what was done this season but the only way is to look forward.” He stressed the importance of unity and starting the match against Birkirkara on a strong note for their fans.
Birkirkara Active in Transfer Market
Birkirkara has been one of the most active clubs during the transfer window, bringing in six new signings. Coach Gianluca Festa believes these additions will quickly adapt to the club’s philosophy. “It was clear we needed to strengthen the team,” Festa said, praising the club’s understanding of their needs. He confirmed all new players are available for selection on Sunday, depending on their physical condition.
Defender Alessandro Coppola, returning to the club for family reasons, expressed his delight to be back at the club “close to his heart.” He believes the squad has quality and, by giving 100 per cent, can “regain the confidence we lost in the Opening Round” and compete with the league’s best teams.
