St Lawrence Spurs maintained their push at the top of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League Second Division with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Żebbuġ Rovers, while Oratory Youths edged Munxar Falcons in an entertaining five-goal encounter as Matchday 8 delivered plenty of drama at the Kercem Stadium.

Spurs Hold Nerve Against Ten-Man Żebbuġ

St Lawrence Spurs continued their fine run of form with a crucial 2–1 win over Żebbuġ Rovers, a result that keeps them clear at the summit of the standings.

Gabriel Debrincat gave the Spurs the ideal start when he opened the scoring on 16 minutes, finishing clinically to put his side in front. Żebbuġ pushed forward in search of an equaliser and were rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa levelled matters.

However, moments later, the complexion of the match changed dramatically as the same Barbosa was shown a red card deep into first-half stoppage time, leaving Żebbuġ to play the entire second half with ten men.

St Lawrence took full advantage after the restart and once again it was Debrincat who proved decisive, restoring the Spurs’ lead on 58 minutes with his second goal of the match. Despite Żebbuġ’s efforts to salvage a point, the league leaders managed the game well to see out the victory and collect three valuable points.

Oratory Youths Edge Five-Goal Thriller

Earlier in the day, Oratory Youths secured their second win of the season after defeating Munxar Falcons 3–2 in a lively contest.

Aroldo Da Silva Arruda, better known as Aroldinho, put Oratory ahead on 39 minutes before Jamie Xerri doubled their advantage shortly after the interval. Munxar responded through Dylan Paul Rapa, who pulled one back on 55 minutes to reignite the contest.

Oratory regained their two-goal cushion on 61 minutes courtesy of Geordie Ellis, but Munxar refused to give up. Rapa struck again on 82 minutes to reduce the deficit to a single goal, setting up a tense finale. Despite late pressure from the Falcons, Oratory Youths held firm to secure all three points.
