Grech inspires Floriana comeback as Greens overturn Naxxar Lions

Floriana produced a strong second-half comeback to return to winning ways with a 3–1 victory over Naxxar Lions, overturning an early deficit at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
The Greens found themselves behind after just five minutes when João Victor spotted Floriana goalkeeper Guilherme Cioletti off his line and executed a superb long-range strike from inside his own half to give Naxxar a dream start. Buoyed by the opener, the Lions enjoyed the better of the opening half, creating several promising chances on the counter.
Edson Farias threatened soon after with a left-footed effort that was blocked by Cioletti, while Floriana came agonisingly close to an equaliser on 14 minutes when Federico Varela’s free-kick took a deflection and struck the upright. Naxxar continued to look dangerous, with Vinícius Baiano, Rosiel and debutant Yeangel Montero all testing the Floriana defence, but the score remained unchanged at the interval.
The match swung decisively at the start of the second half following the introduction of Jake Grech, who immediately injected urgency and creativity into Floriana’s play. Just three minutes after the restart, Grech brought the Greens level with a precise strike from the edge of the area that left goalkeeper Matthias Debono with no chance.
Floriana maintained the pressure and completed the turnaround on 57 minutes. Once again, Grech was the architect, delivering a measured pass from the right for Kenan Dervisagic, who fired a low shot past Debono to make it 2–1.
Naxxar attempted to respond, with Mark Fenech forcing Cioletti into a fine save on 66 minutes, but Floriana remained composed and effectively managed the remainder of the match. The points were sealed on 76 minutes when Grech provided his second assist of the afternoon, laying the ball into the path of Rui Areias, who finished clinically from close range.
The victory marked a welcome return to form for Floriana, whose second-half display underlined their attacking quality, while Naxxar were left to rue missed opportunities from a dominant first-half showing.
