When Estevão sliced through Barcelona’s back line and unleashed a thunderous strike in Chelsea’s recent Champions League clash, the moment must have felt bittersweet for the 18-year-old Brazilian.

According to his agent, André Cury, Barcelona had long been the European club Estevão dreamed of joining when he was still at Palmeiras.

A Barcelona Move That Never Happened

Cury says the youngster was offered to Barça four separate times, but the club’s dire financial situation prevented any deal from materialising.

“He has a special affection for Barça,” Cury said. “At 11 years old you could already tell he was different. He wanted to win the Ballon d’Or, but the club couldn’t commit to a long-term investment.”

Cury even compared the potential Estevão–Lamine Yamal pairing to the legendary Messi–Neymar partnership.

“Think of that duo. It’s better to have both together than just one. With Estevão and Lamine, it would’ve been the same.”

A Cut Above Endrick and Luis Guilherme?

For years, Estevão, Endrick and Luis Guilherme were touted as Palmeiras’ trio of generational talents destined for the top. But only one of them has truly hit their stride in Europe so far— and it isn’t the two who left before him.

Endrick’s move to Real Madrid has been underwhelming: 38 games across two seasons, rarely a full 90 minutes, and just seven goals in all competitions.
Luis Guilherme’s West Ham spell hasn’t fared much better—20 appearances, no goals, no assists.

Estevão, meanwhile, has exploded onto the scene at Chelsea.

A Stunning Start in Blue

His strike against Barcelona was his third goal in just five Champions League outings. He’s also scored in the Carabao Cup and delivered his first Premier League assist, but the moment that truly announced him was a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Liverpool.

While some may expect more from him in the league, context is crucial: 11 appearances amounting to just 385 minutes, constant tactical rotations under Enzo Maresca, and the weight of expectation on an 18-year-old adapting to English football.

What stands out even more than his goals is how quickly he has integrated into a squad packed with elite talent — and one that currently holds the title of world champions.

Digging Into the Numbers

Estevão’s shooting accuracy sits at an excellent 57.1%, with a conversion rate of 33.3%.
His Premier League pass-completion rate is an impressive 84.5%, and he has already created 10 chances despite limited minutes.

Though he doesn’t appear physically imposing, he has shown he can ride challenges, carry the ball through contact and compete with stronger defenders. His five yellow cards in 24 matches for club and country also hint at a competitive edge that could serve him well as he matures.

Can He Make Brazil’s World Cup Squad?

With the World Cup looming at season’s end, excitement is building in Brazil about whether Estevão could become a breakout star in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

He has one goal in seven competitive appearances for the national team, plus four more in friendly matches — encouraging numbers for Carlo Ancelotti as he tries to spark life into a squad coming off a shaky qualifying campaign.

Brazil finished fifth, level on points with Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia, and suffered six defeats — more than any of the qualified teams.

Yet their attacking options remain absurdly rich: Vinícius Júnior, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Richarlison, Gabriel Martinelli and João Pedro, backed by deep quality throughout the pitch.

And that embarrassment of riches may ultimately limit Estevão’s opportunities at the tournament.

A Long Journey Ahead

Should he miss out on a major role — or the squad entirely — the setback could become fuel for the next stage of his already accelerating career.

Because one thing seems certain: Estevão’s trajectory promises more big moments, more big goals and more big headlines in the years to come.
