Scheffler and McIlroy lead PGA tour player of the year nominee list

Scottie Scheffler—winner of two majors and six total titles in 2025—and Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam with his Masters victory, have been named finalists for the Jack Nicklaus Award, presented annually to the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that England’s Tommy Fleetwood, champion of the Tour Championship and this year’s $10 million FedExCup winner, and American Ben Griffin, a three-time winner in 2025, round out the list of Player of the Year nominees.
Scheffler, the world No. 1, delivered a dominant campaign that included a Tour-leading 17 top-10 finishes and a perfect record of made cuts. His victories at the PGA Championship and The Open brought his major total to four, leaving only the U.S. Open separating him from becoming the seventh player in history to complete the career Grand Slam.
McIlroy, representing Northern Ireland, earned three titles this season, highlighted by his dramatic win at Augusta National. He ended an 11-year wait for another major by defeating his playoff opponent in sudden death on a course that had long been the source of heartbreak.
In the Rookie of the Year race, South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter and Australia’s Karl Vilips were nominated for the Arnold Palmer Award, joining Americans Michael Brennan, Steven Fisk, and William Mouw.
Both the Jack Nicklaus Award and the Arnold Palmer Award are decided by a vote of PGA Tour members who competed in at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2025 season. Voting closes on December 12, with winners to be announced at a later date.
