Wade Stuns Littler as Noppert Downs Aspinall at European Championship
Luke Littler’s bid to become world No. 1 came to an abrupt end on Saturday as the teenager suffered a shock last-16 defeat to compatriot James Wade at the European Championship in Dortmund.
Victory in the tournament would have seen Littler overtake Luke Humphries at the top of the world rankings, but the 19-year-old was unable to find his rhythm against the experienced Wade.
Top seed Nathan Aspinall also crashed out, losing to Dutchman Danny Noppert despite an impressive start to the competition.
Humphries ended the night on a positive note for top-ranked players, edging past Cameron Menzies of Scotland to reach the quarter-finals.
