Trustin Farrugia Cann Elected Malta FA Vice-President

Trustin Farrugia Cann has been officially elected Vice-President of the Malta Football Association by acclamation during the Association’s Ordinary General Assembly, held at Centenary Hall, Ta’ Qali, on Thursday, 16 October 2025.
Farrugia Cann was the sole candidate for the vacant position, previously held by Dr Maria Azzopardi, who was appointed Malta FA General Secretary earlier this year. His nomination was confirmed and approved by the Electoral Commission at the beginning of October.
A Distinguished Career in Refereeing
A well-known figure in Maltese football, Farrugia Cann brings 24 years of experience as a match official, including a decade on the FIFA International List. His impressive refereeing career featured assignments in the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, and qualifiers for both the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships. He also served as President of the Malta Football Referees Association.
Earlier this year, Farrugia Cann retired from active refereeing, closing a chapter marked by professionalism and respect on the local and international stage.
“An Honour and a Privilege”
Speaking after his election, Ing. Farrugia Cann said:
“After more than two decades in refereeing, it is a huge honour and a privilege to serve Maltese football from another perspective, now as Vice-President of the Malta FA.”
Farrugia Cann now joins Dr Matthew Paris (Senior Vice-President) and Adrian D. Casha, both re-elected in March 2024, as one of the three Vice-Presidents of the Association.
His appointment strengthens the Malta FA’s leadership team as it continues to push forward with its strategic development of the game at all levels.
