Tottenham’s Randal Kolo Muani Withdraws from France Squad After Suffering Broken Jaw

Randal Kolo Muani will miss France’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers after suffering a broken jaw, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Sunday. The Tottenham striker has been replaced in Didier Deschamps’ squad by Florian Thauvin.
According to the FFF, Kolo Muani sustained the injury to his lower jaw during Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, where he was substituted at half-time in a match that ended in a draw.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank initially downplayed the injury, telling reporters after the game that it was “nothing big.” However, subsequent examinations revealed a fracture that will rule the 26-year-old out of France’s matches this month.
Kolo Muani is currently France’s second-highest active scorer in the squad with nine goals, trailing only captain Kylian Mbappé’s 53. His absence adds to a growing list of attacking injuries for Deschamps, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué sidelined, and Marcus Thuram only just returning from a thigh injury with Inter Milan.
Thauvin, 32, who plays for Lens, returns to the national team as Kolo Muani’s replacement. The World Cup winner made his comeback to the squad in October—six years after his previous appearance—and scored in a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan.
France can secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a win over Ukraine on November 13 at the Parc des Princes. Should they fall short, Les Bleus will have another opportunity to clinch their place when they face Azerbaijan in Baku on November 16.
